16710 Ranch Road 965, Fredericksburg, Texas The second largest granite dome (Batholith) in the United States, Enchanted Rock, which rises 425' above Central Texas has drawn people for thousands of years. Purchased by the Nature Conservancy in 1978 at the urging of Ladybird Johnson, it was recently designated as a National Natural Landmark. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area encompasses 1,623 acres. In 1984, the Nature Conservancy transferred the property to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and it is now part of the State Park system.
Take the challenge and hike to the top, where you´ll experience 360-degree views at 1,850 feet above sea level. You can also camp, rock climb, picnic, bird, study nature, geocache and stargaze. Family friendly, with playground equipment and a sandy creek to play in. Covered pavilions are available for groups, and large picnic areas with tables. There is also a park store and a place that serves food, drinks and frozen treats on weekends.
