Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Named after the 36th United States president, Lake Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) is the centerpiece of Granite Shoals. Lake LBJ is one of the seven lakes that make up the Highland Lakes chain and runs 85 miles along the northwest coast. The lake was created due to the Granite Shoals Dam and was named after former President Johnson, who started as a Texas senator. Granite Shoals residents flock to Lake LBJ every weekend to enjoy fantastic fishing spots, sailing, boating, and other waterside activities.
If you're looking for an old-fashioned home-cooked meal, you must visit Crazy Gals Cafe. They offer fresh country cooking and have the best chicken-fried steak in Burnet County! You can't have dinner without dessert, and Crazy Gals also has that covered. All their bread and pastries are baked fresh daily, and they sell whole pies for customers to enjoy at home.
The Potato Shack is just towards Kingsland from Granite Shoals. It is a local favorite known for its delicious comfort food. This family-owned restaurant serves creative potato dishes, delicious salads and sandwiches, and homemade pastries. Guests can enjoy the welcoming atmosphere, live music, and even weekly painting classes.
Things to Do
Granite Shoals has 19 public parks, so it is no surprise it's known as the "City of Parks." Quarry Park, for instance, is home to a 2-mile biking and running trail. Most parks have waterfront views and access to Lake LBJ, picnic areas, playgrounds, and swimming areas. Residents can launch their boats from one of the public boat ramps to enjoy lakeside sailing.
Granite Shoals also hosts multiple community festivals during the year. GraniteFest is their signature celebration dedicated to bringing the community together through culture, art, music, and fellowship. Events include live music performances, puppet shows, and kid's games. Local vendors flock to the celebration and sell artisan goods, arts and crafts, and fresh produce.
Granite Shoals spreads holiday cheer in their annual Christmas by the Highway event each Christmas. This is a continuous Christmas light display located in the northwest corner of the town. Santa also makes an appearance and kicks off the light show by spreading Christmas cheer (and cookies!) to the children and their families.
Granite Shoals honors its veterans by hosting a Veterans Celebration. This event is open to all veterans and their families who wish to celebrate them. Traditionally, there are poems and dramatic readings, the presentation of the colors, and a performance by the Highland Lakes Elementary School chorus.
