Lake Buchanan is located in the midst of the “Napa Valley of Texas.” The area is home to vineyards and wineries galore and no trip here would be complete without a tasting tour of one or more of these Texas treasures. You wouldn’t think the sky would be a draw all on its own but when it comes to Lake Buchanan, the spectacular sunsets and sky brimming with stars are definitely some of the perks. You’ll also get your fill of water-related activities, including kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, swimming, boating, and jet skiing. Go up the canyon leading into Lake Buchanan if you want to see some beautiful waterfalls as well.

For activities like mini-golfing, horseshoes, and beach volleyball, families should check out the colorful cabins, camping sites, and RV park at Black Rock Park. Bring your friend and extended family along and make use of their group campsites and indoor space that can hold up to 120 of your nearest and dearest.

Located near Lake Buchanan is another natural playland. Spider Mountain is the only year-round chairlift-served downhill biking park in Texas. If you’re in the area in December, and you're a biking enthusiast, you’ll want to sign up to take part in the annual Race Down Spider Mountain event.

If you’re interested in a jaunt through a storied cavern system make sure you visit the so-called “Cave of Legends” at the Longhorn Cavern State Park. During your tour of the caverns stop into the exhibit highlighting the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps which did much of the work of clearing the cavern and creating the park access and facilities during the 1930s.

For a more civilized afternoon in nature, nearby Kingsland Texas is home to the Legends Golf Course. Designed by three passionate golf aficionados, the course offers a challenge for golfers of all ages and abilities.
