August closes loud
Beer By The Bay runs Friday, August 7 through Saturday, August 8, 2026, on Live Oak Lawn, with Wade Bowen, Chris Janson, Kevin Fowler, William Clark Green, Asleep at the Wheel and Cory Morrow. That is a six-act bill across two nights on a single lawn, which is the density that makes it the loudest weekend of the fall shoulder. Wade Bowen has been recognized by Billboard as a "Red Dirt Leader," and Chris Janson is a three-time Country Music Association Award nominee, so the top of the card is not filler.
The practical read for a resident: parking pressure inside the resort peaks Friday evening. If you live on the north side of the bay and you are not attending, plan grocery and marina runs before 5 p.m.
Labor Day is a stargazing weekend
The public write-up of Labor Day at the resort names breakfast alongside a flock of exotic birds, a dark-sky stargazing party with astronomers and telescopes, and a high-energy lawn party featuring The Spazmatics for one last summer sendoff. Every Texas resort has a tribute band on a lawn. The stargazing is the local piece.
There's no better place to explore the night sky than Horseshoe Bay, the eighth designated Dark Sky Community in the U.S.
That line, straight from the resort's own event page, is the fact most residents underuse. Falls Point Lawn is the venue, Star Party America runs the event, and expert astronomers guide guests using giant telescopes and a high-powered laser to reveal constellations, planets, and cosmic stories for all ages. If you have kids or grandkids visiting from Austin or Houston, this is the weekend to invite them. The night sky in their neighborhood does not do this.
The Labor Day window officially runs Sept 4–6 on the resort's marketing, with activities extending through September 7 in some public listings. Plan around the Sunday-night Spazmatics show on Live Oak Lawn as the peak.
The quiet middle has a new address
October has no marquee resort event, and that is where the neighborhood scale matters. Down the road at the LBJ Yacht Club & Marina, The Wave Bar & Grill opened at 200 S. Wirtz Dam Road inside the LBJ Yacht Club & Marina, serving sandwiches, tacos, grilled chicken, hamburgers, salads, and more. It opened December 8, 2025, so this is the first fall it will be fully operational.
Two details that matter for locals. First, the room. The venue captures a laid-back, easygoing lake lifestyle with a distinct tiki-themed bar area, a spacious outdoor patio overlooking the boat slips, and an indoor stage for live music. Second, the hours. The Wave Bar & Grill is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and is currently closed on Mondays and Sundays. That Tuesday-through-Saturday cadence is unusual for a lake bar. It means Wednesday nights are viable in a way they usually are not out here.
If you want a Sunday sit-down instead, Waterfront Bar & Grill at the resort is open Saturday and Sunday for brunch with water views on Lake LBJ, serving elevated brunch classics with mimosas. Between those two, October covers itself.
November flips the switch
The 21st Annual Wine, Dine & Jazz Festival returns November 6–7, 2026, along the shores of Lake LBJ, as a hallmark fall tradition in the Texas Hill Country bringing together top culinary talent, acclaimed musicians and wine enthusiasts for a lakeside weekend. The guest-chef roster is the reason to read the fine print.
This year's dinner is built around Amanda Rockman of Austin's Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop, James Beard Award-nominated chef Maribel Rivero, and Kevin Taylor, executive chef of Austin's Bulevar Mexican Kitchen, joining Horseshoe Bay Resort's culinary team led by Culinary Director Chef Gilbert Moore and Resort Executive Chef Tommy Suddeth, with packages pairing accommodations with access to the Friday Celebrity Chef Five-Course Wine Dinner, Saturday chef demonstrations and the Wine, Dine & Jazz Stroll. If you have friends who chase James Beard-nominated cooking down in Austin, they will not know this weekend is happening 50 miles from where they eat.
On the music side, the stage runs saxophonist Paul Taylor, guitarist and vocalist Steve Oliver, saxophonist Michael Paulo, keyboardist Gregg Karukas, vocalist B. Valentine, drummer Land Richards, bassist Darryl Williams, and drummer Eric Valentine. The wine list leans Hill Country hard, with Wedding Oak, Spicewood/Yates, Portree Cellars, Hye Meadow, Perissos, Torr Na Lochs, Graveyard Vineyards, William Chris/Lost Draw, Becker, Carter Creek, Amici, and Halter Ranch pouring alongside California selections. That is the Hill Country wine trail assembled in one afternoon without the drive.
Residents who don't want the full festival package should watch for Wine, Dine & Jazz Stroll walk-up tickets. The stroll is the accessible entry point.
Then the tree goes up
The Big & Bright Hill Country Holiday runs November 26 through December 6, 2026, with festive events including the Winter Wonderland Tree Lighting & Wine Expo and Christmas on the Lawn, plus horse-drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa, and festive music. Specifically, the Winter Wonderland Tree Lighting & Wine Expo on November 28 features the illumination of a 50-foot Christmas tree, horse-drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa, the Hill Country Mini-Express train, seasonal treats, live entertainment, a curated wine expo showcasing more than 30 wineries, and a holiday retail market. A 30-winery expo is not a garnish. That is a small festival glued to a tree lighting.
Thanksgiving morning has its own tradition. The Turkey Trot features a 5K and 10K chip-timed race, a 5K noncompetitive walk/run, and a Tot Trot for children, with post-race turkey feast and holiday activities, medals for top finishers in each age division, and the crowd-favorite "Rock the Flock" Pet Parade returning with awards for best costume, tiniest pet, biggest pet and more. Register your dog early. Best costume is competitive.
A resident's cheat sheet
- Book by the end of August: Wine, Dine & Jazz packages. The five-course Friday dinner caps early because the chef roster is deeper this year than in the last few festivals.
- Walk up, don't book: The Star Party Experience Labor Day Saturday. It is complimentary to Resort Guests and Members of The Club at Horseshoe Bay Resort, with children under 12 requiring adult supervision, so club membership matters more than a ticket queue.
- Reserve Tuesday, not Saturday: The Wave, if you want to hear yourself talk. Weekends will be marina-boat traffic.
- Register in October: Turkey Trot. The 5K/10K chip timing fills once out-of-town family plans lock in.
- Show up early: Nov 28 tree lighting. The wine expo pours run out before the tree lights up if you arrive after dark.
